Sneaker-net has many encapsulation possibilities.  Some of the most popular are
Tire-Net encapsulation = using a car
Bike-Net encapsulation = using a bike
etc...etc...

Used to be the standard way to transfer files between computers was to
had a student a mag tape and send him off to the other machine.  Once
networks started getting set up, it was quickly discovered that for
large amounts of data this was still both quicker and more reliable
than the network.  So, since students all wore sneakers, this was
referred to as 'sneakernet'.
